Q&A
Describe your playing style in one word.
Cerebral.
What are your strengths as a player?
Preparation. Research. Knowledge of the game. Having been an avid golfer during my younger days, I approach Ultimate the same way - technical and analytic. I spend a lot of time drawing up strategies and plays, visualizing scenarios, breaking them down. I pay special attention to the slightest detail, be it my opponent's weakness or using playing conditions to my advantage.
What are your weaknesses as a player/ what part of your game are you working hard to improve?
My huck game needs some work. I also need to practice my layouts more.
What drives you to play at the top of your game?
I'm ultra competitive by nature, and I hate losing. I also see the emergence of all these young players as a challenge to stay ahead and push myself harder. But above all, what drives me is to bring Super Bueno to Pool A and bag a championship.
Where and at what level do you see yourself playing ultimate in 5 years?
Definitely playing in Pool A, playing any position I want. Also playing in international events.
Who are your heroes and influences in Ultimate?
I used to play with Disc Devils, so Derek Ramsay played a huge role in my Ultimate career.
I also learned a lot from Wendell Simbulan, one of the coaches of Team Philippines.
For international players, I look up to Ben Wiggins, and even joined his clinic when he came to Manila.
Did you play any sports in High School/ College?
Basketball and Golf.
